Hot-Dip vs Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe: Which to Specify

Hot-Dip vs Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe: Which to Specify

Galvanized steel pipe comes in two coating types. Choosing correctly affects corrosion life and cost.

Hot-dip galvanized

The pipe is dipped in molten zinc after forming, giving a thick coating inside and out, including the welds and ends. It is the durable choice for outdoor and scaffold tube.

Pre-galvanized

The steel strip is galvanized before the pipe is formed, so the weld seam is less protected. It is lighter and cheaper and suits dry, indoor uses.

Which to specify

  • Scaffolding and outdoor: hot-dip
  • Indoor framing and lighter use: pre-galvanized
  • Coastal or humid: always hot-dip

We supply both, including Ø48.3 mm scaffold tube. Tell us your application for the right spec.
