Scaffold tube looks simple, but diameter and wall thickness decide compatibility and strength.
The Ø48.3 mm standard
Almost all scaffold systems use a nominal Ø48.3 mm outside diameter so that couplers, clamps and fittings interlock worldwide. Stick to this diameter for compatibility.
Wall thickness matters
- 3.2 mm: common, lighter, to many regional standards
- 4.0 mm: stronger, heavier-duty scaffold tube
- Thickness sets load capacity and which standard it meets
Standards
Scaffold tube is supplied to standards such as EN39 and BS1139. Always confirm the standard your contractor or market requires.
